The Farm

We are a family-run farm located close to the Berwickshire Coast in the south-eastern Scottish Borders. Peelham’s 500acs is farmed to certified Organic and Pasture-for-Life standards with an on-farm butchery and charcuterie facility.

Our Farming System is based on nature’s diverse time-proven technologies (free at-the-point-of-use), of sunshine, rain, soils, grassland and livestock grazing management producing  for nature, customers & family

Our farm business partnership of Cayley Walton Partners has been evolving from its original 20ac small holding since 1990 with Chris and Denise Walton and Amanda Cayley.  Angus, Denise and Chris’s son became a business partner in 2016. Angus’s wife Helen is also involved in the business currently managing two small boys! Chris, Denise and Angus are the Managing Partners. In addition to the partners, the farm and its butchery sustain at any one time, a working community from the locality of 4-6 people.  

Low-cost; Low- input farming with free (zero cost), natural assets (Water, Soil, Green Grass); Annual Cost Saving Benefit £70,000 (nil agro-chemicals, nil beef grain feeds plus ap £8,500 reduced tractor and fuel use – 85% reduction in last 8 years; 0.0992 CO2e/ha), with additional benefits of increasing grassland utilization & sequestration.

Productivity & Nutrient-density: Beef productivity (Live Weight Gain) finishing at 595kgs in 18-20months. Research by Newcastle University including our meat shows the significantly increased nutritional value (Omega 3), from grass-only fed cattle.

Restoration of habitat infrastructure for farming & biodiversity (with support of agri-environment schemes):

New & Restored Hedgerows: 14kms – 130% increase

New Woodland: 14ha (23,000 trees) – 50% increase

Open water (ponds): 1.69has (4 ponds, 3 scrapes) – 7x increase

Significant increase of woody biomass and Carbon sequestering capacity

Carbon; Sequestered 560t tradeable C in 3 months from June-August 2026 Emissions: ap 145T/yr (1.72t COe2/ha less than the average)

Soil Organic Matter: average 7% (5.4% historically arable – 12% long-term pasture).
